Ramadan 2018 - Announcements:

If you follow Fiqh Council of North America (Astronomical Calculation): *ANNOUNCED*
  • The first day of Ramadan 1439 is on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, insha’Allah. First Tarawih prayer will be on Tuesday night.
  • Eid al-Fitr on Sunday, June 15, 2018, insha’Allah.
  • Note: The Fiqh Council of North America recognizes astronomical calculation as an acceptable Shar'i method for determining the beginning of Lunar months including the months of Ramadan and Shawwal.

If you follow International Global Sighting Criteria: *ANNOUNCED*
  • The Crescent Committee of Canada has declared the 1st day of Ramadān for Thursday 17th of May, 2018.
  • Our affiliates across the globe could not confirm any positive sightings tonight on the 15th of May. Calculated sighting and astronomical data also suggest that the crescent is not possible to be seen tonight. Therefore, the Crescent Committee of Canada has declared: 1st Tarawīh on Wednesday 16th May, 2018 and 1st day of Fasting (1st Ramadan) on Thursday 17th May, 2018.
  • Note: Based on our principle of international global sighting, in the very unlikely chance of a confirmed sighting in the pacific west coast, we will update our declaration.

If you follow Local Moon Sighting Criteria: *NOT-ANNOUNCED*
  • Ramadan 2018 - based on Naked eye: .... waiting.... The meeting of the Hilal committee to determine the Hilal sighting for the month of Ramadan will take place on the eve of Wednesday 29th Sha'ban – 16th May 2018.

Eid al-Fitr 2017 - Announcements:

If you follow Fiqh Council of North America (Astronomical Calculation): *ANNOUNCED*
  • Eid al-Fitr on Sunday, June 25, 2017, insha’Allah.
  • Note: The Fiqh Council of North America recognizes astronomical calculation as an acceptable Shar'i method for determining the beginning of Lunar months including the months of Ramadan and Shawwal.

If you follow International Global Sighting Criteria: *ANNOUNCED*
  • The Crescent Committee of Canada has received reliable reports of the new crescent moon sighting for the month of Shawwal 1438 on the evening of Saturday June 24th 2017 (29th Ramadan). Therefore the blessed month of Ramadan concludes and the 1st of Shawwal (Eid al Fitr 2017) is on Sunday 25th of June, 2017.
  • Note: They have confirmation that the Judicial Council of Saudi Arabia has declared the beginning of Shawwal based on testimony taken from moon watchers. As the day progresses, we expect additional sightings from the Americas, in particular in the southern regions. It must be noted that the Crescent Committee considers the declarations of international moon sighting committees and judicial councils as reliable, even though at times the judicial councils or committees may make a declaration against calculations or astronomy. The decisions of the judicial councils will be deemed more authentic than calculations as described in all major fiqh manuals.

  • Eid al-Fitr 1438 - based on Naked eye: There are confirmed reports of sighting of Hilal for the month of Shawwal from within the parameters of the Hilal Committee of Metropolitan Toronto & Vicinity ( Various Places in Chile, Guyana, Barbados) on the eve of 29th of Ramdan corresponding to Saturday 24th June 2017. Therefore, the Hilal Committee of Metropolitan Toronto & Vicinity declares the 1st of Shawwal 1438 on Sunday 25th June 2017.

Hilal Council of Canada/Crescent Committee of Canada in accordance with the principle of Global sighting (Itihadil Matali) is pleased to announce that on the evening of Thursday May 25th, 2017 (29 Shabaan) no sighting of hilal was verified anywhere. Shabaan completes 30 days. Hilal Council of Canada officially declares Ramadhan will begin on Saturday, May 27th, 2017.

Ramadan 1438: Ramadan Mubarak based on Naked eye: There are confirmed reports of sighting of Hilal for the month of Ramadan from within the parameters of the Hilal Committee ( Various Places as Barbados) on the eve of Friday 29th of Sha'aban . Therefore, the Hilal Committee declares Saturday 27th May 2017, the 1st of Ramadan 1438. More info about GTA's Hialal Committee

he Greater Toronto Area has one of the most ethnically diverse Muslim communities in the World and it is continuously expanding. According to Canada's 2011 National Household Survey, there were 1,053,945 Muslims in Canada or about 3.2% of the population, making them the second largest religion after Christianity. In the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), 7.7% of the population is Muslim, and in Greater Montreal, Muslims are 6% of the total population. Hence Muslim Population in GTA during 2011 was 494,186 which is growing every year rapidly. Surely now it much more than 550,000.

With growing population the need for Islamic Centers, Muslim Schools and businesses that support Islamic way of life has increased too. GTA house some of very prominent Mosques and well established Schools in Canada. Many programs and events are organized under these Islamic bodies.

alal is the Arabic word for permissible, and in dietary law it is used to refer to foods that are permitted for Muslims to eat. This usually means that meat comes from animals that have been slaughtered in accordance with the dictates of Islamic law. The Need to eat hand slaughtered halal meat has created a big demand of Muslim Farms. On Eid-Ul-Adha, Muslim prefer to slaughter their animals themselves. Although you can also give money to various Muslim Meat shop and they can arrange Qurbani for you.
